Manchester United tell Harry Maguire he ‘can’t wait to go this summer’

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire will be desperate to get away from the club this summer, according to a former Premier League striker.

Maguire has been regularly criticized by United’s fan base this season following poor performances. He ironically received acclaim when he came on as a substitute against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League before being booed on international duty in a friendly against Ivory Coast.

Earlier this month, Greater Manchester Police were called to Maguire’s home after receiving a bomb threat. Subsequently, Maguire was benched for United’s defeat at Arsenal and was omitted from the matchday squad entirely for Thursday’s visit to Chelsea.

Now, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor, Maguire will be desperate for the season to end. He told Football Insider: “I’m so sorry for Harry Maguire.

“I’ve been there as a player where you go through a tough time and everyone’s on your back. You don’t know where to turn. For him, I bet he can’t wait for the season to end. Get on a nice break with his family, forget football.

“Come back in pre-season, put in the hard yards and start a new season under a new manager. He’ll be looking forward to walking away this summer, away from football. You can go through that. Everybody healthy mental and you cannot consider footballers as robots.

“People like to jump on the bandwagon with Maguire. I feel sorry for him because there have been so many bad performers for Man United. But he’s distinguished all the time. He didn’t play against Arsenal and looks how good they were defensively. Raphael Varane wasn’t better and neither was Victor Lindelof.”
