Police said late Monday afternoon that the man entered a house in the north of the city that was “not associated” with him and took an unknown number of hostages.
The bank robbery, they said, happened several blocks away.
On Monday evening, Edmonton Police spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout said as a result of efforts by professional negotiators, a woman who was the only hostage was released unharmed around 5:30 p.m.
âThe police then entered the residence at around 6 pm and found a 36-year-old suspect who had died. There was no one else in the house, âshe said.
