Culver City appoints Lisa Soghor as new chief financial officer

The Town of Culver City is pleased to announce that Lisa Soghor has assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer. “I am thrilled to join the staff of Culver City and serve our diverse community. I look forward to continuing to extend the Department of Finance’s tradition of financial excellence and transparency,” said Lisa.

Lisa assumes this role following the promotion of Onyx Jones to Assistant City Manager. Lisa is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of public service experience. Most recently, she served as Deputy City Manager of Malibu. During her tenure in Malibu, Lisa helped grow the city’s general fund undesignated reserves from $20 million to $39 million; coordinated $25 million debt issuance; helped the City acquire 29 acres of land for $42 million; and helped maintain the City’s AA+/AAA investment bond rating. His fiscal management helped Malibu weather the economic strains of the Woolsey fire in 2018 and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Prior to working for the City of Malibu, Lisa served as Assistant General Manager and Head of Developed Resources for the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority since 1995. She has extensive experience in senior management, administration, finance, human resources , capital projects, facilities management and environmental issues. Lisa has overseen many award-winning capital improvement projects throughout the region including the Anthony C. Beilenson Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center, Vista Hermosa State Park, Pacoima Wash State Park, Marsh Park and the Los Angeles River Greenway.

Originally from Los Angeles, Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Under Lisa’s leadership, over the past five years, the City of Malibu has consistently received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for Malibu’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. She is also the recipient of the 2013 Federal Energy and Water Management Award from the US Department of Energy and the 2014 Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Business Council.
