Blackpool chief executive Ben Mansford has said loaned forward Owen Dale needs to get back to full fitness before a permanent move from Crewe Alexandra is completed.

During the summer transfer window, Owen Dale was heavily linked with a move away from Crewe Alexandra, who became a star player at Gresty Road.

Ultimately, it was Blackpool who made a deal for the striker, but only on loan after a foot problem emerged during his medical examination.

Now, with Dale still grappling with the same foot issue, general manager Ben Mansford has said the issue needs to be addressed before the Tangerines look to strike a permanent deal.

As quoted by the Blackpool Gazette, Mansford admitted that the club did not feel ‘comfortable’ making a permanent deal after finding out about the issue, but revealed his excitement about Dale playing in a jersey. from Blackpool.

Here is what he had to say:

“We told Crewe that if we were allowed to take Owen on loan, with everything documented so that we had the option of converting him to a permanent, then we would leave, understand Owen’s body, take him to the a place where he would be in good shape, play for us and then consider the situation with everyone.

“Then we’ll work on the current loan with advisors from Crewe and Owen and hopefully get the right solution for everyone at the right time.

“Everything is done, everything is concluded, everything is agreed. It’s up to us to figure out Owen’s body and figure out if it’s the right thing for Blackpool to do.

Win a crack in the championship

The 22-year-old’s performance for David Artell’s side in the 2020/21 campaign has shown real signs of promise and ability, so it will be interesting to see how Dale fares in the Second Division, provided that he has the chance to appear.

He had 12 goals and three assists in 48 outings last season, mostly on the right wing. Although he has already operated on the center-forward or on the left wing.

Competition for a starting place

In his preferred role on the right, Dale will be competing with Keshi Anderson and Josh Bowler for a starting position.

It is hoped that the competition will get the best out of everyone as Blackpool look to secure their league status this season.
